This is another editorial illustration I created to represent the essay My Two-House, Duffle Bag Life, part of the Modern Love column in The New York Times. The article is about a child whose parents get divorced and how she struggled with the change. She thought she lost the link that held her family together but then realized that she was the link that held them together. Throughout this story, there is a lot of growth. The author starts off as angry and envious of other kids whose parents are still together. After some time, she finds comfort within the new routines and realizes that joy can be found within the new people and traditions. I took this concept of growth and combined it with the idea of the author being the link that keeps her family together, which resulted in the image of a child watering two flower people (inspired by Vladamir Kush's Morning Blossom) that represent her mother and father. She is watering her family to keep them alive and connected to both her and each other, allowing them to grow and create connections with new people and traditions as well.
